Evacuation in case of a fire or other emergency at Campus Helsingborg

It is a good idea to be prepared in the event of a fire or any other reason for an evacuation. Find out what to do if the alarm goes off.

Save

Save and help people who are in immediate danger and evacuate the premises. Persons with reduced mobility are to be escorted to a temporary evacuation site. At Campus Helsingborg, the stairwells, located directly outside the lifts in the C and E buildings, have their own fire cells and serve as temporary evacuation sites. If possible, close doors and windows to reduce the spread of fire and smoke. In a fire, smoke rises which is why it is easier to see and breathe close to the floor. Crawl out of a burning or smoke-filled room.

Alert

Alert the people around you that a fire has started.
If you hear a signal, identify what it is.
Fire alarms are bells that ring and give off a loud noise. If the alarm does not automatically start, or if there is another cause for evacuation, press the alarm button to trigger the fire and evacuation alarm. Learn where the alarm buttons are located at your workplace.

Call

Call the emergency services via SOS Alarm by dialling 112, or 0 112 if you are using an internal phone. The fire alarm at Campus Helsingborg is automatically connected to the emergency services. Call the University security control centre at +46 46 222 07 00 and notify them of what happened.
Emergency address: Universitetsplatsen 2 (building known as “Tretornbyggnaden”)

Extinguish

Extinguish the fire if you think you can do so without taking any unnecessary risks. Fire extinguishers, and any fire safety blankets, are strategically placed. Their exact location is shown on the evacuation plans. Learn where they are located at your workplace.

Evacuate

Evacuate the building via the evacuation routes indicated on the evacuation plans and guiding signs. Look for the green evacuation signs. Learn the evacuation route; study the evacuation plan at your workplace. Make it a habit to check the evacuation plan when you arrive at a new place, e.g. hotel rooms.

Where emergency opening is, lift the cover, smash the glass and press the button.

On every floor at Campus Helsingborg there are yellow vests available. The people who find themselves closest to one are to put the yellow vest on and act as an evacuation leader. As an evacuation leader, initiate the evacuation and, if the situation allows, search in all areas. Meet up with the emergency services when they arrive and report on the situation to the person in charge. Teaching staff are to gather their students, and managers gather their staff, and head for the designated assembly point and await further information.

Choose a smoke-free route!

Take the stairs – lifts must NEVER be used without the help from the emergency services. At Campus Helsingborg, the lifts are pre-set to not operate during such an event.

Help each other and especially people with disabilities. If people with reduced mobility are at a temporary evacuation site, notify the emergency services immediately.

The evacuation routes must always be kept clear. To prevent the spread of smoke and fire, the evacuation routes are equipped with fire doors which close if the alarm sounds. The fire doors must never be blocked in an open position.

Stay calm, don’t run

Staying calm can save lives in an emergency situation.

Assembly point

Stay at the assembly point and wait for information from the fire officer, security guard or other person in charge. The location of the assembly point for the building is clearly marked on the evacuation plan, and the place is posted with a sign. Learn the location of your assembly point. The assembly points at Campus Helsingborg are indicated in the image below.

Do not return into the building without permission, or leave the assembly point until we know it is safe. Keep an eye on the people around you.

Remember that the evacuation alarm may also be used in emergencies other than fire.
If anyone is missing or injured, report it immediately to the emergency service officer or University security guard on site.
